Welcome to Galilee class
Class teacher: Mrs Smith
Class TA: Mrs Longo & Mrs Shaieb
Religion– Our topics this term in RE are ‘Book’ when we think about the Bible, ‘Thanksgiving’, thinking about Mass and in Lent ‘Opportunities’ leading up to Easter.
EPR – The EPR subjects are linked to our RE topics. We experience a sense of belonging within a range of communities, including the local Eucharistic Community and play an active role as members of society.
We know that everything has the capacity to reveal God’s presence and in the light of this develop effective and satisfying relationships.
We know that limitations are also opportunities for growth and make the most of our abilities.
English – Our Literacy work this term links in with our topics ‘Heroes of our times’ and ‘Around the World on a magic carpet’. We read and write our own stories, information books and poems, as well as acting them out. We write information books and letters about different Heroes.
The children participate in Phonics and Grammar lessons based around the Song of Sounds. Weekly spellings are sent home to learn.
Maths– In maths we build on place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. We look at fractions, measures such as time and money. We will use our knowledge to solve problems. Mental maths skills such as halving, quartering and looking for patterns are used daily.
Science -In Science we are looking at Uses of everyday materials
- Identify and compare the uses of a variety of everyday materials, including wood, metal, plastic, glass, brick, rock, paper and cardboard for particular uses.
- Find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.
Topic– Our topic is ‘Heroes of our times’. We look closely at 4 different heroes from different times. We will use a variety of sources to find out about them and the influence they had.
Computing- We are learning how others use technology outside school, the importance of keeping personal information private and how to predict the behaviour of a programmed toy.
Art & Design – We are looking at using powder paints to mix colours and use them in different contexts.
PE– This term we are outside for games and inside for gymnastics and dance.
Our PE days are Mondays and Wednesday.
Homework– The children are expected to read at least 4 times a week to an adult and record it in their reading record books. They have regular spelling and maths homework.
